Picnics: The New Normal

As summer is finally around the corner, and we are now allowed some much-needed distanced socializing, there’s no better time to celebrate International Picnic Day. Any excuse for a day that has no rules other than enjoying good food, weather and company (from afar) is something we’re excited about. Let’s reconnect with nature and each other and celebrate safely.

Family-Friendly Staycation

Many of us will have to forgo international traveling this summer, but that doesn’t mean vacation is canceled. With a focus on staying local, more people will be turning to outdoor activities like camping, hiking or picnics to replace their usual activities and see their loved ones. It’s important for us to feel a sense of normalcy amidst so much uncertainty and exchanging a brunch for a picnic is the perfect way to bring family and friends together and inject some summer vibes into our lives. Picnicking is also a great excuse to get out those summer dresses, shorts and sandals: a welcome break from loungewear. Just remember to skip the potluck, bring your own dishes and only give virtual hugs.

Reconnecting with Colleagues

Many companies have also started to reopen, and employees who are going back to work have to adapt to socially distanced office life. This may mean that shared areas like break rooms or cafeterias are temporarily closed, preventing employees from catching up after months of staying home. Socializing is an important part of our work life; after all it’s a second home for most of us and colleagues become friends, so for companies that have access to green space, a distanced picnic is the ideal way to lunch safely together and maintain a somewhat normal routine.

We are all trying to find ways to go back to our regular lives, and although we will have to adapt the way we socialize, as long as we have good weather and each other, picnics are here to save the day.
