Ardene Fills Gift Boxes for the Shoebox Project
It’s that time of year; secret santas, family gift exchanges and lots of goodies all month long, which is why for many women struggling with homelessness, it’s the hardest time of the year. At a time when most of us are surrounded by our loved ones, women who are estranged from their families feel especially alone, which is why the Shoebox Project is here to remind them that they are not forgotten.
The Shoebox Project for Women is a Canadian initiative that began in 2011 to provide women in need with gift boxes filled with items designed to increase their self-esteem and make them feel more confident and beautiful. In their first year, The Shoebox Project delivered about 400 shoeboxes to homeless women’s shelters in Toronto. 8 years later, the program has evolved and has now delivered about 180,000 shoeboxes across North America, valued at around 9 million dollars!
Once again, Ardene participated in this important cause and on December 4th, gathered our creative talents to fill, decorate and donate 48 shoeboxes to the organization. With items ranging from socks and hats to candy and cosmetics, as well as accessories and assorted knits that Ardene has donated directly, employees contributed with items for each box valued at $50. It was an inspired afternoon with the common goal of providing homeless women in Montreal gift-filled boxes to make the season a little brighter.
