Plastic Bag Free Day
Today is Plastic Bag Free Day; a global initiative to eliminate the use of single-use plastic bags in the world, and something Ardene cares deeply about. Depending on the type of plastic, it takes between 5 and 500 years to disintegrate, so we have reduced the amount of plastic in everything we do; from shipping and packaging all the way to our daily head office operations. We are committed to doing more and finding even more ways to eliminate plastic and be innovative in the materials and processes we use.
Reusable Bags
Disposable plastic bags account for a large percentage of the plastic sitting in landfills, so all of our stores carry reusable Ardene Foundation bags in all sizes. We've also developed an eco-conscious reusable and recyclable bag that's available at 100 of our stores so far, and just in time for back to school, we will be introducing a reusable bag made from leftover denim. We want to make it easy for our customers to develop sustainable shopping habits and encourage them by always offering reusable options.
Reduction of Single-Use Plastic
Reducing our plastic consumption goes beyond the bags we offer in our stores. We've made changes across the board to introduce plastic-free, recycled and recyclable alternatives wherever possible, and we continue to take steps to eliminate even more in our daily operations.
• We've eliminated individual polybags for all apparel arriving in stores.
• We've eliminated single-use plastics at our head office, like cutlery, cups and water bottles.
• We've introduced a hanger re-use program in stores, saving 462 tons of plastic, and we have 100% recyclable hangers for all lingerie and swim products.
• We've introduced recycled and recyclable packaging and tags to most of our products.
• Our famous surprise bags are made from 100% recycled plastic too!
From Plastic to Product
To further reduce existing plastic waste, we use recycled fibers in many of our eco-conscious products. These fibers are made using the recycled waste from bubble wrap, bottles and poly waste, giving a second life to plastic materials that would have ended up in a landfill. We plan to offer an even bigger eco-conscious selection made with these recycled fibers, and we are dedicated to developing more programs and alternatives to using new plastic. #ardenelove
